WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM?

PROOFREADING focuses on examining each phrase for grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. Rhythm and pacing will also be checked to make sure the manuscript is effectively conveying your work.

COPY EDITING focuses on everything a proofread does, as well as examines consistencies in things such as: spelling, character traits, or factually incorrect statements.

LINE EDITING focuses on rhythm, syntax, word choice, redundancies, and the overall strength of the sentence.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING focuses on the overall story. This includes plot, character development, structure, pacing, and dialogue. It also targets plot holes and inconsistencies.
